Admitted Students
Welcome to NJIT— let’s get you started.
You’re Admitted, What’s Next?
At NJIT, innovation meets opportunity. As a top public university, we are committed to giving you the knowledge, experience and support to lead in a rapidly evolving world.
This page outlines your next steps, from securing your spot to preparing for your first day of class as an online graduate student.
You are about to join a driven, future-focused community. With nationally ranked programs, real-world learning opportunities and a strong support network, NJIT is where your ambition takes root and your impact begins. We’re excited to see what you’ll accomplish.
For orientation and enrollment purposes, international students are defined as those seeking an F-1 student visa from NJIT. Exchange students (J-1 visa) should refer to njit.edu/global. If you are an international student, be sure to review the International Student Next Steps.
Next Steps
1. Confirm Your Spot at NJIT
To confirm your enrollment, you may submit your non-refundable enrollment deposit at tuitiondeposit.njit.edu. Submitting your deposit secures your place in the program and gives you access to important next steps – like course registration, advising and orientation. Your deposit will be applied directly to your tuition.

2. Set Up Your NJIT Accounts
-
Create Your University Computing ID (UCID)
Visit njit.edu/ucidaccount to claim your UCID. You may need to wait 24 hours after admission before creating it. If you have any issues, contact the NJIT Help Desk at 973-596-2900. -
Enroll in Duo Two-Factor Authentication
After claiming your UCID, you’ll be prompted to set up Duo Two-Factor Authentication the next time you log in. Duo adds an extra layer of security to protect your NJIT accounts and personal information. Follow this Duo Setup Guide to install it on your mobile phone. If you need help, contact the IST Service Desk at 973-596-2900 or servicedesk@njit.edu. -
Set Up Your NJIT Email Account
Your email will be activated as soon as you claim your UCID. Log in at webmail.njit.edu with your UCID. This is your official NJIT email account. Important updates, notices and communication from the university will come here, not to your personal email. -
Log in to Highlander Pipeline
Access your student portal at my.njit.edu. Highlander Pipeline is your central hub for course registration, financial aid information, tuition billing and other key student services.
3. Meet With Your Academic Advisor
-
Find Your Academic Advisor
You’ll be able to see your assigned advisor in Highlander Pipeline once your account is fully set up. You can also visit our graduate advisor’s page to find your advisor’s contact information. -
Schedule a Meeting Before Registering for Classes
An advising meeting is required before you can register for classes in the Martin Tuchman School of Management and the Newark College of Engineering. While an advisor meeting is not required for those in the Ying Wu College of Computing, it is still recommended.-
Students in Ying Wu College of Computing and Martin Tuchman School of Management can schedule advising appointments through Navigate, an online scheduling tool.
-
Students in the Newark College of Engineering should reach out to their advisor directly via email to arrange a meeting.
-
-
Note for International Students
You’ll meet with your academic advisor during International Student Orientation.
4. Register for Classes
-
Register Through Highlander Pipeline
Once you've met with your advisor, you can register for classes through your student portal at my.njit.edu once registration opens. For details on registration policies and dates, visit njit.edu/registrar/registration. -
Important Reminders:
-
You must be registered for at least 6 credits before financial aid can be applied.
-
If a class you want is full, join the waitlist. NJIT monitors waitlists and may open additional sections based on demand.
-
-
Note for International Students
You’ll register for classes during International Student Orientation.
5. Understand Your Financial Aid (If Applicable)
-
File the FAFSA
If you haven’t already, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov. Be sure to include NJIT’s federal school code: 002621.
Your financial aid package will be available in the College Financing Plan, which you can view through Highlander Pipeline. If anything changes—like your residency or housing status – you’ll get an updated version. -
Review and Accept Your Awards
Once your financial aid offer is available, log in to my.njit.edu to review and accept it through Highlander Pipeline. -
Note for International Students
Federal financial aid is only available to U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens. International students do not file the FAFSA or receive federal aid.
6. Send Your Final Transcripts
Submit your final official transcripts to NJIT’s Office of University Admissions as soon as they become available. These must show proof that you’ve completed your bachelor’s degree. Transcripts can be:
-
Mailed directly from your college/university to the Office of Admissions, or
-
Emailed by your college/university (or approved third-party service) to admissions@njit.edu.
7. Attend Orientation
Online students can choose from two orientation options:
-
Self-Guided Online Orientation: Accessible anytime and completed at your own pace.
-
Optional In-Person Orientation: Typically held in August, this session is open to all newly admitted students, including online learners. The Graduate Student Orientation (GSO) office sends invitations by email.
Visit our new graduate student orientation page for more details.
International students are also required to attend International Student Orientation. Visit new student information to learn more.
8. Pay Your Tuition
-
Your bill will be available through your Highlander Pipeline account, and notifications are sent to your NJIT email. For details on payment methods and deadlines, visit njit.edu/bursar.
-
Online learners pay only for the credits they register for, along with a one-time matriculation fee and a commencement fee upon graduation. To qualify for the online tuition rate, students must register for fully online courses, listed as “online virtual” in the registration portal. International students should review payment instructions for international students.
Online Student Recommendations
These are optional steps for online students, but you’re welcome to take advantage of them if you’d like to access on-campus resources.
-
Obtain a Photo ID
After you receive your course schedule, you can follow these instructions to get your NJIT photo ID. -
Get a Parking Permit
If you plan to come to campus, you can apply for a parking permit at njit.edu/parking once your schedule is ready. -
Student Health Packet
You don’t need to complete this if you’re an online student, but if you’d like to use on-campus health services, it’s available. -
Health Insurance
Students enrolled in an online program are not charged for NJIT’s health insurance plan, regardless of how many credits they take. Additionally, no waiver is required. Learn more at njit.edu/healthinsurance.
Important Dates
Make sure you’re prepared for the semester by reviewing key academic dates at njit.edu/registrar/calendars. It’s your go-to resource for start dates, registration deadlines, and more.
